Summary:magnetic simul-locking, symmetric locking system
Description & Commentary:

The unique Magnetron locking mechanism employs magnets in two pivoting locking tabs on the gate, and a steel insert in the nose of the carabiner. When closed, the magnets engage the two pivoting tabs (class 1 levers). When open, the tabs are held open by the magnets repelling each other. No additional springs are needed.

The RockLock frame itself is a classic large HMS shape, very useful for belay or master point uses.

I find this design to be one of the best locking mechanisms available. Triple action autolocking, but the two locks may be disengaged simultaneously and easily. The design is fully symmetric, operating exactly the same with the left or right hand. Because the tabs are somewhat recessed and located on opposite sides of the gate, it is far more secure against accidental opening than a standard lift-and-twist triple action carabiner.

This particular example appears to predate RockLock Magnetron v2, as the BD website shows the last model in a Black finish without the USA forge mark on the spine. This example also has a batch code with an A, indicating manufacture in one of BD's asia factories.
