| Description & Commentary: | CAMP claims (in 2023) that the (non-locking) Photon is the lightest solid gate carabiner on the market. Although the Photon Lock version is not the lightest locking carabiner, it is extremely light for the size - making it very usable in practice. The design includes other user-friendly features such as an unlocked indicator, locking sleeve ridges for easy unlocking, and a smooth narrow nose which aids in clipping (and unclipping) from crowded anchor points. A slightly recessed straight section combined with the asymmetric D shape encourages the hand to cradle the carabiner, offsetting the challenge of handling the spine's narrow ridge (4.9mm). Overall, this is a high-quality screw locking carabiner, well representative of top-tier climbing carabiners in 2023. |
