Description & Commentary: | Since around 2010, locking carabiners have seen a huge increase in use across all vertical disciplines as designs become smaller and lighter. With this, auto-locking carabiners have diversified somewhat - with some users looking for high-security multi-lock autolocking carabiners and others looking for something more secure than a non-locking carabiner but faster to operate than a traditional screwlock carabiner. The Edelrid Pure Slide falls into this low-security category. The locking slider is too exposed for my taste, and could easily open when contacting a foreign object or other piece of gear. Only 3.5mm of slider travel will unlock the gate. Other climbers report this locking mechanism fails, keeping the carabiner from closing fully. The HMS lockers tend to break more often - the locking mechanism will break fully, self-ejecting from the gate. |
