|Description & Commentary:|
A basic '90s workhorse carabiner. The gate has flat spots so the rivet edges sit flush - and won't snag fibers on soft goods.
Despite the name, REI offered this in BLACK, BLUE, BRIGHT (silver), GREEN, PURPLE colors. I think this was the second generation version - it has a higher strength rating than the other Gold D v1 I have. The body is slightly different as well, with the differences most notable on the hinge-relief area of the carabiner.
Unusually, batch markings are dot-peened (think dot-matrix printer for metal) on the gate.
