Summary:historic carabiner from the maker of the first asymmetric d carabiners
Description & Commentary:

10th Mountain Division veteran Gerry Cunningham sold outdoor products though his eponymous company, designing innovative outdoor equipment including the first triangular carabiner (although this is not that first model).

The entire carabiner body, including the notch, is formed from forged steel, with the Gerry logo visible on the basket end in the right profile view. The gate is formed from aluminum tube.

Interestingly, instead of using a spring in compression (as found with most modern carabiners), this model uses a spring in tension. A pin just below the main latch pin anchors the upper end of the spring and the lower end attaches to a hole in the hinge area.
