Summary: | early webbed I-beam, hourglass sleeve |
Description & Commentary: | Mammut's Bionic series of hardware were some of the first carabiners with webbed I-beam profiles. Large size at a competitive weight, with distinctive, smooth lines, the Bionic HMS has a nice symmetrical rounded basket which makes it a pleasure to use and compatible with lots of wide hardware (such as fixed side plate pulleys, ascenders upper attachments). I think these were produced for Mammut by DMM, given the similar markings with known DMM products, practically identical Mammut & DMM carabiners from this time, and the hotforging process. The locking sleeve has a central band of 2000's DMM-style knurling, but (unlike DMM products of the time) a slight hourglass shape to center the fingers on the knurling. Also offered in a twistlock gate. |
