Description & Commentary: | A basic '90s workhorse carabiner. The gate has flat spots so the rivet edges sit flush - and won't snag fibers on soft goods. I think this was the first generation version of the Gold D - it has a lower strength rating than the other Gold D I have. The body is slightly different as well, with the differences most notable on the hinge-relief area of the carabiner. REI offered the v2 in BLACK, BLUE, BRIGHT (silver), GREEN, PURPLE colors, despite the name "Gold D" - but perhaps this version was only offered in the bright-body/gold-gate finish. Unusually, batch markings are dot-peened (think dot-matrix printer for metal) on the gate. See also: REI Gold D v2 |
